Bigger and better: Okongo prepares for 5th Omaludi Agricultural Festival
The Okongo Village Council has commenced with the preparations for this year’s Omaludi Agricultural Festival.
Village council CEO Jackson Muma announced that the flagship event will take place from 25 May to 30 May at its traditional venue near the Okongo airstrip.
This year, the festival's theme is 'Agriculture and Tourism for Sustainable Economic Growth'.
Muma said the theme highlights the essential role that farming plays in driving inclusive development while positioning tourism as a key partner in unlocking the potential of rural economies.
He added that together, these sectors are seen as a powerful pathway toward empowering the youth and ensuring long-term prosperity.
“The festival promises a rich blend of livestock exhibitions, agricultural showcases, cultural displays and networking opportunities that bring together communities and industry players from across the country,” he said.
He added that the Omaludi Agricultural Festival offers a unique model that celebrates Namibia’s rich cultural heritage while advancing modern agricultural practices.
"It is a space where tradition meets innovation, where communal farmers transition into agri-entrepreneurs and where ideas are cultivated into opportunities.”
The festival promises a packed programme featuring livestock exhibitions showcasing the best of regional farming as well as agricultural showcases and cultural displays.
It also creates networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and industry players from across the country.
In a boost for the event’s national standing, the organising committee confirmed that President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has served as the patron of the festival since 2018.
Nandi-Ndaitwah is also expected to deliver the keynote address at the gala dinner, which will be held on 25 April at the Okongo Village Council Offices.
