Bail denied for man accused of raping, cutting girlfriend's genitals

A 34-year-old Ondangwa man accused of beating and raping his girlfriend before allegedly threatening to kill her and cutting her vagina with an okapi knife has been denied bail.

Shinene Ndaudako Frazelina made his first appearance in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday before magistrate Nelao Ya France on charges of rape, assault by threat and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, all read with the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act.

The alleged violent rape occurred on 1 July at Oshaakondwa in the Ondangwa district.

The State alleges that Frazelina unlawfully and intentionally raped his girlfriend while using physical force, including punching her in the face and ears and cutting her genitals with an okapi knife.

Brutal assault

In the second count, the accused is charged with assault by threat. Prosecutor Christa Nauises alleged he threatened to kill the complainant and cut her genitals, causing her to believe he intended and had the means to carry out the threats.

The third count alleges assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, arising from the same knife attack, which the State says was carried out with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm.

During his first appearance, Frazelina elected to conduct his own defence after being informed of his right to legal representation. The State requested a postponement to allow for further investigations and opposed bail, arguing that the complainant fears for her life and that releasing the accused would not be in the interests of justice.

Ya France postponed the matter to 2 November for further investigation.
