Zambia aiming for maximum points
Augustine Mulenga, Zambia's national senior football striker, has made his intention known of coming out tops when they face Namibia in their last group game today.
Mulenga, who is in the race for top goal scorer at the African Nations Championship (Chan) currently underway in Morocco, said this at a media conference after their 2-0 win over Ivory Coast on Thursday.
The Zanaco Football Club forward said their target is to collect maximum points in all their Group B matches.
“We are taking it one game at a time but going into our next game against Namibia we are aiming at also collecting the three points, so we can be top of the group,” he said.
The striker has scored three goals in two games played thus far, scoring his first goal in their opening match against Uganda and then scoring twice when they defeated Ivory Coast.
Zambian national team coach, Wedson Nyirenda echoed his player's statement, saying despite qualifying for the quarter-finals they are not going to take things easy going forward.
“Our group was not easy; we just came out top in the group because we prepared well and going into our last group game we are still going for those maximum points to keep us at the top,” said Nyirenda. Zambia and Namibia's Brave Warriors are level on six points each, but Zambia tops the log on a better goal difference. The two nations clash in Casablanca tonight at 21:00, Namibian time to decide the group winner and runner-up to face the top two teams in Group A, being hosts Morocco and Sudan, in the quarter-finals.
