The Namibia Wrestling Federation has praised Romeo Goliath and Alvaro Eixab for winning silver and bronze medals at the Africa Continental Wrestling Championship in Algeria.
Goliath and five others represented Namibia at the championship, which is currently underway in Algeria.
Eixab claimed bronze in the 60kg cadet Greco-Roman style while Goliath earned a silver medal in the 55kg Greco-Roman style.
“We are very proud of what the boys have achieved at the championship.
“It gives us hope going into the Olympic qualifier tournament to be held in Morocco.
“I must say that all the boys did much more than we expected during the competition,” Johannes Homateni of the federation said.
Kevin Vleermuis came fourth in the 55kg Greco-Roman style, while Devind Bernard also secured fourth place in the 72kg Greco-Roman style.
Lizo Relani also finished in fourth in the 87kg Greco-Roman style at the championship. “Wrestling is a very important sport code which is widely celebrated all over the world.
“We hope that more young wrestlers will join the sport in Namibia,” Homateni said.
