Wrestlers ready for Africa Wrestling Championship
Six wrestlers are aiming for top spots at the African Wrestling Championships, which started yesterday.
The Namibia Wrestling Federation (NWF) has assembled a team of six athletes to compete at the 2020 African Wrestling Championships, which kicked off yesterday in Algeria.
The seven-day competition will run until 9 February in the Algerian capital Algiers.
The athletes are Ester Abraham (cadet freestyle - 49kg), Romeo Ricardo Goliath - (senior Greco-Roman - 55kg), Alvaro Eixab (cadet junior - Roman - 60kg), Releni Lizo (junior Greco-Roman - 87kg), Devin Bernhard (junior Greco-Roman - 72kg) and Kevin Vleermuis (junior Greco-Roman - 55kg).
The wrestlers will compete to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The team is accompanied by head coach Luis Forcelledo, NWF president Magdalena Katimba and Dr Hernandez Lenin.
The African Wrestling Championship is an annual event which showcases the best of African wrestling in the senior, junior and cadet categories.
