World Cup in Namibia's sights
The Namibian senior national rugby team are in pole position to qualify for their sixth Rugby World Cup, after registering three wins in three starts in the Africa Gold Cup.
Namibia will lock horns with Zimbabwe in Bulawayo tomorrow in the Africa Gold Cup, after securing three straight wins to lead the table with 15 points, while Kenya is in second on 12.
The match is expected to kickoff at 16:00.
The Land of the Brave has amassed a whopping 236 points during their three matches so far, while conceding 13 and raking in three bonus points.
They beat Uganda 55-6 in their first match, before walloping Tunisia 118-0. In their third encounter, Morocco were humbled 63-7. This has put Namibia in pole position to qualify for next year's Japan Rugby World Cup, where the Africa Gold Cup winner will be lumped in Pool B, which includes New Zealand, South Africa, Italy and the Repechage winner.
Namibia is desperate to qualify for Japan and are hoping to register their first win at a World Cup, after playing in the past five editions of the tournament.
The defending Africa Gold Cup champions first need to put in a good performance against Zimbabwe tomorrow, who have started the tournament on a scrappy note.
They drew 23-23 with Morocco, before losing 45-36 to Kenya and then succumbing 18-17 to Tunisia. The Zimbabweans cannot be taken lightly though, as they also have a strong squad.
They have also had amble time to regroup and may fancy their chances of dishing up and upset.
Zimbabwe will have to bring their right running legs, as they face a crop of experienced Namibians that include some fresh talent, who are hungry to leave their mark. After tomorrow's clash, Namibia will face Kenya at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek in their last match.
In terms of the rest of the log standings, Zimbabwe and Morocco have three points each, while Tunisia and Uganda have zero. Uganda will face Tunisia tomorrow at 14:00 in Kampala.
