Women making strides in police force

Despite all the odds women may encounter in male-dominated working environments, the Namibian police continues to make strides in appointing women in key decision-making positions.
Inspector-General Sebastian Ndeitunga said this at the opening of the Namibian Police Force Women’s Network annual general meeting.
Ndeitunga encouraged the women to use the gathering to discuss emerging law enforcement challenges and the role of police women in these contexts.
Improving service delivery
He said they should further use this platform to share ideas on how to improve service delivery in crime prevention.
“You are expected to devise and implement meaningful resolutions to this effect. These resolutions should include introducing talent-spotting and mentoring programmes within the police force.”
Ndeitunga said some barriers and challenges can only be overcome by continuous reviewing of mainstreaming approaches in all policies, strategies and directives.
“The network should earnestly play an active advisory role in relevant organisational initiatives aimed at achieving gender equity.”
According to him, the meeting aims to address various strategic issues such as the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-Operation Organisation’s women’s network strategic plan 2021/2025.
It will also focus on the Namibian police’s strategic implementation plan and its gender-based violence (GBV) action plan, the SADC strategy on GBV and regional sexual GBV violence training guidelines, as well as the election of new leaders.
