The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias began their SuperSport Rugby Challenge campaign on the back foot with a 40-23 defeat to the Xerox Golden Lions in Windhoek on Saturday.
It was said to be a better performance from the Namibian team, who have been struggling to secure positive results lately.
With some of the players in the team potentially to represent the country at the Rugby World Cup, there is still much to be done for coach Phil Davies to get the team to gel.
The Lions managed to score six tries during the 80-minute match, while the local team only managed to score two tries.
Namibian flyhalf PW Steenkamp kicked two penalties and converted the try that was scored by eighth-man Adriaan Booysen.
Golden Lions looked as if they were going to destroy Namibia after taking a 14-6 lead into halftime.
Namibia eventually managed to reduce the point deficit through some exciting rugby and tries by PW Steenkamp and scrumhalf JC Winkler.
In other action, the Tafel Lager Griquas stamped their authority on the SuperSport Rugby Challenge with a stunning and commanding victory over the Hino Valke at Kimberley.
The Down Touch Griffons began their SuperSport Rugby Challenge with a win in Welkom, beating the Leopards 34-27 (halftime 14-12) at the HT Pelatona Projects Stadium thanks to two tries in the final quarter.
Heading into the final 20 minutes of the match, the Leopards enjoyed a slender one-point advantage but tries from replacement scrumhalf Duncan van Vuuren and Number 8 Jean Pretorius handed the home side the vital win.
The visitors raced into a 12-0 lead as flanker Reuben du Plooy and fullback Keagan Tait crossed the whitewash with flyhalf Siyabonga Masuky converting only once. But the home side regained their composure and scored two converted tried through fullback Domenic Smit and right wing Ezrick Aleander with scrumhalf Jaywinn Juries converting both as the sides went into the break with the Griffons leading by two points.
Masuky regained the lead for the Leopards with a penalty early in the second half but Aleander scored his second of the afternoon, converted by Juries to give the home side a six point lead.
Du Plooy crossed the whitewash again for the away side before the Griffons sealed the match in the final quarter of the game, despite a late try from Leopards flanker Edmund Rheeder.
