LIMBA MUPETAMI - The Welwitschias have ended bottom of the log in their section of the SuperSport Rugby Challenge, after being hammered 94-3 by the Pumas on Saturday.

The Namibians had tried unsuccessfully to turn around their fortunes in the tournament and secured only a solitary victory.

The local outfit led by Lyn Jones was no match for northern log leader's iCollege Pumas, as they lost by a whopping margin in a match played at the Sasol Rugby Club in Secunda.

The first time the two teams met in March, the Pumas defeated the Namibian team 54-12 at the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium.

The Namibian side went into the match after securing their only win of the season against the Valke last month in neighbouring South Africa, but were humiliated by the log leaders. The depleted side stood no chance against their more eager and dominant opponents.

Their training for the last match was disrupted as the core of the Welwitschias were included in the national training camp that was held in Stellenbosch, South Africa in preparation for their Rugby Africa Gold Cup match which they won on Saturday.

The one win in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge was far from enough to secure a place in the next round and also failed to inspire the Namibian players to work hard on and off the field.'

They will now have to play in the Currie Cup competition.
