We need timelines
The more things change, the more they stay the same. This famous saying by French critic Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr is very relevant to Namibia - where change in leadership has produced little distinction between the eras of such leaders.
Part of the problem is the chronic disease of overpromising in order to accrue political currency. The freshest example is Cabinet this week manufacturing a myriad of promises to supposedly tackle the rampant cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
The most glaring void in this avalanche of promises, which already tells us it was a ploy to get protesters out of the streets, is the lack of timelines within which government intends to deliver what it has promised.
It’s Machiavellian politics at best. Cunning, scheming and unscrupulous politics.
If you are the custodian of national resources and are controlling the strings of the national purse, you ought to know what’s in the kitty and how much time you need to accomplish your promises to the masses.
Be truthful to the masses you are serving – even when the truth hurts.
