Warriors sharpen skills ahead of Cosafa Cup
The Brave Warriors preparations for the 2018 Cosafa Cup are on course and they departed for the Pretoria High Performance Centre (HPC) on Saturday ahead of their quarterfinal clash this coming Saturday against Zambia in Polokwane.
Coach Ricardo Mannetti and his technical team jetted out with 19 players for an intensive training camp at the HPC this week before they depart to their match venue on Wednesday to finalise preparations for their crucial clash against Zambia.
Of the 24 players called up for Cosafa earlier this month, only goalkeeper Edward Maova and striker Peter Shalulile are out with injuries, while 23 players are in contention for places to face Zambia on Saturday.
Namibia won the Cosafa Cup in 2015, before claiming the Plate competition on home soil the following year. They again made the Plate decider in 2017, but this time lost to hosts South Africa.
The Cosafa Cup is being hosted in Limpopo, the provincial capital Polokwane, from 27 May to 9 June and the Brave Warriors will play Zambia at 15:00 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Wangu Gome (Platinum Stars), Denzil Haoseb and Ananias Gebhardt ( both Jomo Cosmos) will join the team if and when they are released from involvement in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) promotion/delegation playoffs.
Leopards will confirm their promotion if they beat Jomo Cosmos Wednesday afternoon. Cosmos will be home against Platinum Stars on 2 June at 15:00, but this match will mean nothing to Leopards if they secure their promotion on Wednesday.
Leopards lead the way with five points after three games played, with Cosmos in second place (two games) and Stars (three games) in third on two points each. Only the top team will be promoted to the PSL. The Brave Warriors players in attendance at the Pretoria HPC are as follows: Ratanda Mbazuvara (African Stars), Maximillian Mbaeva (Golden Arrows), Ferdinand Karongee (Tigers), Vitapi Ngaruka (Black Africa), Tiberius Lombard (Lusaka Dynamos), Donovan Kanjaa (Young African), Riaan Hanamub (Orlando Pirates), Charles Hambira (Tura Magic), Emilio Martin and Dynamo Fredericks (Black Africa), Ronald Ketjijere (African Stars), Gustav Isaak and Absalom Iimbondi (Tigers), Ikuaterua Hoveka (Young African), Marcel Papama (Unam), Willem Pinehas (Eleven Arrows), Deon Hotto (Bloemfontein Celtic), Panduleni Nekundi (African Stars) and Itamunua Keimuine (Tura Magic).
