Wakudumo’s going nowhere - Kavango East SPYL

The Kavango East Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) has come to the defence of regional governor Bonifatius Wakudumo, who has been under attack by pressure groups calling for his removal.
At a press conference held in Rundu yesterday, the ruling party’s youth wing in the region took aim at those groups calling on Wakudumo to leave office, saying that the governor is “going nowhere”.
Wakudumo has come under attack following his decision last December to appoint Chinese-born businessman Charlie Min Xie as one of his advisors, a decision he revoked after public outcry.
SPYL Kavango East secretary Anselm Marungu yesterday took swing at those groups, especially the Kavango East Concerned Group, who are spearheading the call to have Wakudumo removed.
The KECG has planned another demonstration for this Friday to compel President Hage Geingob attend to their cry.

Marungu, on the other hand, warned against such actions, questioning whether Wakudumo was the regional governor when a Chinese property magnate constructed a mall and houses in Rundu.
He also challenged the anti-Wakudumo supporters on where they were when Chinese nationals were exporting timber from the region.
“Who was the governor when the Chinese opened shops in Rundu? Who were the governors when Kavango East Region was rated the poorest region in Namibian since independence? Did the concerned group stage a demonstration against the above mentioned? The answer is no.
“So, let us be fair to each other,” Marungu said.
‘Forgive him’
“The SPYL is strongly condemning those who are calling for the removal of Wakudumo from office, [which is] baseless now because that appointment was withdrawn and he gave an apology.”
Marungu went on to say that by revoking his decision and apologising to the public, Wakudumo admitted that his decision was not well received and acted promptly after the outcry, adding that he must, therefore, be forgiven.
“As residents of the region, we should find a space in our hearts to forgive him, he is our leader. We should always respect the decision of the head of state for appointing him as our governor,” Marungu said.
