Unam through to final
Wanderers missed out on a chance to defend their premier league crown, after losing in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Unam Rugby Club booked their place in the final of the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) premier league, after beating Rehoboth Rugby Club 25-20 in their semi-final clash.
It was a special victory for the university side, who last year missed out on a chance to play in the final, after having dominated local rugby for several consecutive years.
The victory for Unam did, however, not come easy, as Rehoboth were determined to deny the university side a chance to play in the final, at all costs.
Unam overturned a 7-14 halftime deficit to clinch victory.
Julian Julian Afrikaner scored Rehoboth's only try of the match, while Henrique Olivier scored three penalties and there were two drop goals by Ascher Coetzee.
Unam's tries came from Paolo Andrews, Sunday Haitembu and Simon Kanime.
Lorenzo Luis scored two conversions and Reiner Benade scored a drop goal, while substitute Delron Brandt converted a penalty.
The biggest upset of the day came between Trustco United and defending champions Wanderers.
Wanderers were eager to emulate their form of last year, which saw them lifting the trophy against United.
United, however, came with plans of their own and managed to beat the defending champions 35-27, tasting sweet revenge for last year.
United let 16-13 lead at halftime.
Last year, FNB Wanderers overcame their nerves, as they defeated United 30-22 in the premier league final at the Hage Geingob Stadium.
Unam and Trustco United will battle it out in the final on 31 August at the Hage Geingob Stadium.
The reserve league also saw Rehoboth II beating Unam II 32-27 to reach the final, while Wanderers II also booked their place in the final by beating Western Suburbs II 40-22.
