Unam Jaguars take a bow

The Khomas Netball Region's season-opening tournament was won by the Namibia Correctional Services team, who defeated the defending champions, Unam Jaguars, in the final of the Premier League category on Saturday.

The Namibia Correctional Services team beat Unam Jaguars 18-7. Winners were also crowned in the first and second divisions.

The tournament was played on a round-robin basis, with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The winners of these semi-final encounters then competed against each other in the finals to determine the eventual winners in the three divisions.

The Khomas Netball Region executive committee thanked First National Bank for sponsoring the trophies and the medals, as well as Trustco United and the Namibian police who made their netball courts available for the tournament.

They thanked Netball Namibia for facilitating the training and grading of umpires over the weekend.

“We also thank all the teams and their players, officials as well as spectators whose participation and support made the 2019 season-opening tournament a success,” the organisers said.

The Khomas Netball Region executive will in due course announce details regarding the commencement of the 2019 league activities as well as outreach programme envisaged for the year.
