Unam ends seventh round with valuable win
The University of Namibia’s football team (Unam) made sure that they went into the international break on a high note after recording a 2-1 win over Tura Magic in Saturday’s MTC Premiership action.
Unam, who were hovering just above the relegation zone, found the breakthrough in the second half after the sides went into the halftime break level at 1-1.
Tura Magic’s goal was scored by Alfeus Handura while the left-footed Edmund Kambanda scored for Unam.
But it took a moment of inspired leadership for the ‘Students’ to get the win as Brave Warriors’ Heinrich Isaacks made a strong run into the Tura Magic box before passing the ball to Boniface Siyanga, who made no mistake in scoring.
The win lifted Unam to eight points and into relative safety as the MTC Premiership goes on a small break to allow international football to take place.
The latest round of fixtures kicked off last Wednesday with Orlando Pirates beating Civics 1-0 thanks to a goal by former youth international striker Terdius Uiseb.
On Friday, African Stars suffered their first loss of the season as Tigers’ Gustav ‘Image’ Isaak stepped up in the second half to score the match’s only game.
Even though Tigers were reduced to ten men after a red card to James Marufu, the Shandumbala team managed to hold on as the win put them on 17 points.
That is the same number of points as log leaders Black Africa, who managed a 1-1 draw with Flamingos in Rehoboth on Saturday.
