Two children run over by cars
A five-year-old boy died after being run over on the main road between Ondangwa and Onathinge in the Oshikoto Region on Monday.
Police Deputy Commissioner William Peter told Nampa that the boy was identified as Efraim Panduleni Junior Mvula from the Omuthiya area.
According to Peter, the child was hit by a grey Toyota Corolla at about 08:30 in the area of Oniimbwele village. The boy died on the spot.
The driver of the car was arrested and a case of culpable homicide was opened against him at the Onayena police station.
According to Peter, the boy was running across the road to his mother who was standing on the other side.
At Henties Bay, a six-year-old boy died after he was run over by a car in Jakkalsputz Street on Monday morning.
Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa said the boy was identified as Adriaan Frank Engelbrecht.
“It was reported that the victim was running after his puppy across the street when he was [hit] by a motor vehicle. He died instantly,” she said.
Kashuupulwa said a case of culpable homicide was opened against the driver of the vehicle, Michael Johannes Van Staden.
The police in the Oshikoto Region opened an inquest docket at the Onayena police station after 38-year-old Shivute Matheus Tangeni was found dead in his bedroom at Omandongo village on Sunday.
Tangeni allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol in the head.
Peter urged people to seek counselling from health workers, the NamPol Woman and Child Protection Unit, religious institutions, trusted family members and elders instead of taking their own lives.
