Tura Magic Ladies crowned WSL champions
Tura Magic Ladies were crowned champions of the 2015/2016 Women Super League (WSL) over the weekend with two games left.
The team is comfortably at the top of the log with 54 points, without losing or drawing any game this season.
Coach Shama Gure praised his team for the achievement, stating that their hard work had finally paid off.
“The season was exciting as we never knew what to expect for any game but we maintained consistency,” he said, adding that the women deserved the victory because of their hard work.
Gure said his side always knew that they were not going to have it easy on the field and made sure they stuck to their training sessions to maintain fitness.
“We worked twice a day just to make sure we were ever ready for our games and for these girls to be crowned champions today is really a product of hard work and commitment,” he said.
He added that his side was also excited to have produced two “wonderful and brilliant players” (Zenatha Coleman and Thomalina Adams) playing in Lithuania.
“We know that it won’t be easy again next semester but will continue to work as hard as we did this season so that we can produce more girls to play for international clubs and also players for the national teams,” he said.
Namibia Football Association (NFA) president Frans Mbidi applauded the department of women’s football for keeping the league going for the entire season.
Mbidi said he was impressed with the development of women’s football in the country and was committed to making sure the game was played in all the regions.
He said the association worked tirelessly to make sure the league has an official sponsor in addition to FIFA.
He added the association would make sure the league was played every year.
Mbidi congratulated Tura Magic Ladies and advised the rest of the teams to work harder to win the league in years to come.
The league is expected to end this week, as teams such as Okahandja Beauties are yet to complete their games.
