Tony Figueira benefit exhibition at NAGN

The National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) will be hosting a benefit exhibition for well-known Namibian photographer Tony Figueira. The exhibition titled ‘For Tony’ will be opened by Supreme Court Judge Dave Smuts on Wednesday, May 6 at 18:00 in the Main Gallery of the NAGN. Tony Figueira, the owner of Studio 77, is critically ill and is undergoing extensive medical treatment. Since he is a colleague and friend and has contributed immensely to photography in this country through partnerships, exhibitions and training, to name but a few examples, the NAGN thought it right to arrange a benefit exhibition. The NAGN put out a call to all Namibian photographers – professional and amateur - to submit works of photography for the exhibition. Since putting out the call the NAGN has received a great number of inquiries and many people willing to participate. This proves that Tony has touched the lives of so many Namibians with his photography, who in turn want to give back to him. The NAGN urges all to support the exhibition as proceeds from the sales of works will go to Tony and his family. WINDHOEK STAFF REPORTER
