Tom and Jerry win KASU Winter Champs
Newly formed Tom and Jerry football team from Katutura won the football category of the eighth edition of Katutura Sports Union's (KASU) winter cup on Saturday at the Katutura Youth Complex in the capital.
The annual tournament started on 8 June 2019 with 24 football and 16 netball teams competing for N$25 000.
Tom and Jerry defeated Otjinene-based Erindi Otjirarua 3-0 in the first semi-final match while Truck Team overcame Karibib-based Wild dogs 4-0 in the second semi-final.
Tom and Jerry then won the winter cup after they defeated Truck Team 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in the final to walk away with N$8 000, a trophy plus 20 gold medals.
Runners-up Truck Team pocketed N$4 500 plus 20 silver medals whereas Erindi Otjirarua and Wild Dogs pocketed N$2 250 each as losing semi-finalists.
Truck Team won the netball category of the tournament on 8 June 2019 when they defeated Red Dragons 21-16 in the final.
Boffing from Oruuua won the football battle last year, however failed to defend the cup they won three consecutive times after they were defeated 2-0 by Tom and Jerry in the first round of the competition.
