TN Mobile takes on MTC
ONGWEDIVA MERJA IILEKA
New kid on the block TN Mobile has officially put on its boxing gloves in the fight against the current leading mobile operator in the country, MTC.
Relying heavily on attracting customers of both fixed and mobile services, Telecom Namibia's decision last year November to acquire the debt-ridden Leo for a meagre N$2 and completely transform it could be one of their best gambles yet.
At the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF), the two telecommunications companies - situated across each other in the Queen's Hall - have since last week Friday been offering special deals in an attempt to lure customers to their stalls.
With TN Mobile selling dual sim-card mobile phones for a mere N$100, as well as buy-one-get-one-free mobile specials, the new mobile company has been able to make inroads into the MTC customer base.
On Wednesday, the new telecommunications company also officially opened its TN Mobile teleshop at the Oshana Regional Mall as part of the company's transition to completely phase out the old Leo brand over the next few months.
The managing director of Telecom Namibia, Frans Ndoroma, told Namibian Sun that with orange, dark blue and white tones, the TN Mobile shop was specifically designed to match the TN Mobile brand.
But the leading mobile company isn't taking the punch lying down either.
As part of the Ongwediva Trade Fair specials, MTC is offering 50% off on selected products until Saturday.
In his speech over the weekend at the official opening of the OATF, MTC spokesman Tim Ekandjo played nice and welcomed TN Mobile to the telecommunications industry.
"You are now stronger and we look forward to an exciting telecommunications industry as you try and emulate our excellence. MTC and Telecom Namibia are not enemies, and we will never be, we are simply competitors," said Ekandjo.
