Tigers stay relevant
Premier league football in the country is at a standstill, but clubs are still trying their best to remain relevant and active by introducing different activities.
Namibia Premier League (NPL) side Tigers FC have embarked on a journey to mobilise supporters by having a fun day on 30 November at the Dawid Bezuidenhoudt Secondary School.
The club, which is currently yearning for football, says they hope that when the league resumes they would have mobilised more fans.
The Windhoek-based team have invited everyone, regardless of who they support, to the fun day.
Tigers supporters club marketing and mobilisation officer Ruben 'Jakes' Nghifimule believes the event will unite football lovers from across the country.
“The initiative is to have many football fans to come together and have fun with us on the day.
“We also plan on having a roadshow in order to create awareness about our club and to mobilise more supporters.
“The fact that we have not had an active football league, it will be important to at least bring supporters together and ensure that the club remains relevant,” Nghifimule said.
The fun day will include a seven-aside and a netball tournament for any interested teams.
Registration for the seven-aside tourney is N$500, while netball teams will pay N$300 each.
“There will be stalls and people will also be able to taste traditional drinks and food at the same occasion.
“Other interesting things on the cards will be a tug of war competition,” Nghifimule said.
Established in the early 1920s, Tigers is one of the oldest clubs in the country, with a rich tradition.
The club has won two NPL titles and three Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup trophies over the years.
