Brave Warriors central defender Teberius Lombard says the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) competition in June will be a historic moment for him.
The Lusaka Dynamos player says he is looking forward to the experience and will put everything on the line for his side.
“It's going to be a great spectacle. I'm not going to Egypt because I like pyramids. I'm going to cut any striker that I face on the pitch,” says Lombard, who turned 30 last Friday.
With 15 caps for the national side, Lombard will prove to be an asset for the Brave Warriors as they try and protect the backline from any goal attempts.
Known for putting himself in the way of a ball without any concern for himself is what sets Lombard from the rest.
“This is do or die. This is the moment young boys dream of. So, no matter what happens in Egypt, the nation will be proud,” Lombard says.
Before making his big move to Zambia and becoming the first Namibian footballer to do so, Lombard played for Tura Magic during the 2008-09 season when the club was still playing in the Khomas Region's Second Division.
He was loaned out to Orlando Pirates the following season, where he got a taste of top-flight action, before returning to help Magic win promotion to the Namibia Premier league in the 2010-11 campaign.
He featured for the club on numerous occasions and earned favour with local fans. Now the Namibian is enjoying the same reception in the Zambian league, earning himself a reputation of being a no-nonsense centre back with one aim in mind: cutting off unwanted attacks.
