The Last Band Standing competitors revealed
The National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) has announced the 24 bands that will be competing in next year’s The Last Band Standing.
Organisers received over 40 applications, and after a gruelling audition, 24 bands were selected to compete in the first round in February next year.
Namibian Breweries will be sponsoring the competition with N$450 000, while the National Art Council of Namibia (NACN) has also announced a N$100 000 sponsorship.
The Last Band Standing has so far produced three winners - Ras Sheehama in 2011, Shishani in 2012 and Etondo earlier this year. NTN acting general manager Wanda Richter said the competition has become the biggest live band music show in Namibia.
“The event further provides opportunities for countless musicians to promote themselves, network and share with others and showcase their talents. It creates a platform for a diverse and growing music audience to experience quality live music performances,†she said.
Johanna Kambala from the NACN said government acknowledges the role that arts and culture plays in development.
She added that the NACN - through its allocation of grants - encourages participation in art programmes and the expansion and improvement of arts in Namibia.
