Team Kia rider conducts training camp
Team KIA Namibia’s elite rider Martin Freyer conducted a training camp near Windhoek a fortnight ago.
His exercises, which focused on cross-country skills, were based on knowledge he had acquired while attending a two-week training course at the International World Cycling (UCI) Centre in Aigle, Switzerland, in September.
“I believe Namibia has a lot of talent. That’s why I want to teach kids the basic, but very important aspects of riding during a young age,†the mountain-bike ace from Windhoek said. Freyer had promised to pass on what he learned in Europe upon his return. In total, nine youngsters accepted Freyer’s invitation to up their skill-set.
The Team KIA rider put up an obstacle course on which the participants trained.
Furthermore, Freyer gave the kids some theoretical tips on cross-country racing, mechanical issues as well as basics like slalom driving, manuals and bunny-hops. According to Freyer, this was only the beginning. He plans to undertake more such events in the near future.
