Team Covid wins at Groot Aub
The Groot Aub Challenge Powered by Dad Man came to an end on Saturday afternoon at the packed Groot Aub stadium.

The small community of Groot Aub, which isn't really spoiled with entertaining events, came out in numbers to watch an action-filled football tournament Powered by Dad Man at the gravel Groot Aub stadium on Saturday. The exciting tournament was eventually won by Team Covid-19 after they beat Airport Eagles 4-1 on penalties after a goalless draw in a very fast-paced match.
Winning prizes
The victors, Covid-19, walked away with N$5 500, a floating trophy and 20 gold medals, while Airport Eagles received N$3 500 and 20 silver medals as runner up. Team Uprising Stars defeated fellow home team Deon Eleven and received prize money of N$1 000 as well as N$800 as the last home team standing. Latinos received N$1 000 for losing in the semi-finals.
Bringing communities together
The organiser of the tournament, (Rhuuksie //Garoeb), thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the tournament and urged fans to turn up for tournaments coming up soon.
“I would like to thank Dad Man who sponsored the tournament to the tune of N$10 800. We need more people like him in rural sports and believe that others will emulate the example set. “All the teams that participated, a very big thank you, without you we wouldn't have hosted a successful tournament as well as the fans, and spectators for a creating a beautiful atmosphere, thank you.
“I would also like to thank True-Gem Investment who assisted with new balls and new corner flags at a very short notice and Lady J from Windhoek for her donation of N$500 through Nicolette Kolomoni towards the tournament. Good job by the referees as well.”
//Garoeb said the tournament will continue in Gobabis on 1 and 2 August, and then move to Mariental on 12 and 13 September.
Registration for the Gobabis tournament is N$500. Due date for entry is 31 July. Teams that would like to take part should contact Deon Kibit on 081 707 0552.
