Teachers vote in favour of strike
About 95% of Namibian teachers have voted in favour of strike action following a pay dispute with government, while 4.7% voted not to strike. Namibia National Teachers’ Union secretary-general Basilius Haingura confirmed that of the 20 473 votes cast, 19 473 of the teachers voted in favour of the strike, with just under 1 000 voting against the strike. There were 42 spoiled votes. The teachers have rejected a 5% offer from government and are demanding a salary hike of 8%.
