Taxi passenger dies in crash

ELLANIE SMIT WINDHOEKA 24-year-old man died in an accident in Windhoek on Friday afternoon after the taxi he was travelling in collided with another car. According to the police, the accident happened at the corner of Robert Mugabe Avenue and Etna streets in Eros.It is alleged that the driver of a Honda Ballade was driving along Robert Mugabe Avenue, approaching the traffic lights. The Honda driver allegedly drove through a red light and collided with a Nissan Note taxi. The taxi driver sustained serious head injuries, but is in a stable condition. The 24-year-old passenger, Bethuel Mukono, died instantly. Another taxi passenger sustained serious injuries. The driver of the Honda sustained moderate injuries and was the only occupant in the car. Trans-Caprivi HighwayIn a separate incident on Friday at Ndiyona in the Kavango East Region, a pedestrian was hit by a car on the Trans-Caprivi Highway. Kanyanga Johannes Shikongo was crossing the road when he was hit. He died on the spot. In Oshakati's Oneshila location, the 27-year-old driver of a white Golf hit a 39-year-old woman who was crossing the street. Dorothea Kapenambili Ashipala, a resident of Ongwediva, died instantly. The driver of the Golf fled the crime scene, but was arrested later.Matheus Kasanga (58) died on Thursday of injuries sustained when he overturned his car on the road between Okankolo and Onayena on 22 August.
