Swapo must admit mistakes - Hausiku

The Swapo leadership has changed its tune from denying deepening divisions in the party, and has called for self-correction.
Deputy secretary-general of the ruling party, Marco Hausiku, said owning up to one’s mistakes and challenges is not a sign of weakness. Instead party cadres should rise from what others may see as the ashes.
Speaking at the opening of a ‘renewal of mandate’ session held with Swapo’s regional leadership, Hausiku said party members should interrogate the challenges the party faces and not be ashamed.
“No problem, no challenge is everlasting. In actuality, all problems or challenges are temporary. It should give you strength to rise from the ashes of those challenges and problems and become stronger. “Therefore, our meeting today should be seen as that opportunity where we collectively decide to rise and make sure we are there for the Swapo Party,” he said.
The Swapo central committee member further pointed out that the problems cannot be ignored and allowed to go on.

Meanwhile, the party’s secretary-general Sophia Shaningwa said the party can no longer tolerate infighting and bickering over positions.
According to her, Swapo has spent millions on legal fees and logistics over disputes for positions because some regions had parallel structures and verification teams had to visit these regions from time to time.
“Not only were the verification teams to the regions costly, but some of the squabbles cost the party millions of dollars in legal fees. If we do adhere to our constitutional provisions, we will have less squabbles as far as the terms of offices are concerned.
“Parallel structures shall never ever happen in our party again. Swapo party can simply not afford infighting, hence the need to do things the right way,” Shaningwa said.
She added that members must elect disciplined, committed and fair leaders who are in the party structures in order to promote inclusivity, transparency and fairness.
