Swakop hotel hosts vaccination point
A hotel in Swakopmund’s central business district has made space available for the establishment of a Covid-19 vaccination point.

Hotel Zum Kaiser in Swakopmund’s central business district (CBD) now accommodates a vaccination point in its conferencing facility.
The manager of the hotel, Anett Kötting, hopes this move will encourage the public to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
“I was vaccinated recently and fortunately the lines were not long. I know that people are turning away from the lines because the waiting time may be too long,” she said.
Kötting took it upon herself to personally visit businesses in the surrounding CBC to inform them of the option to be vaccinated at Hotel Zum Kaiser.
Despite this, enrolled nurse and midwife Pamela Heigan, who is assisting in the vaccination effort at this site, said they were off to a relatively slow start.
“Our first day was very slow but today it is picking up and we hope that it will continue to do so,” she said on their second day.
War on misinformation
According to Heigan, the war on misinformation continues. She urged the public to turn away from questionable sources and to make their decisions based on their surroundings.
“Misinformation is usually spread by people who do not actually work in the health sector. Rather look around you and assess so you can make an informed decision.”
She noted that the most common vaccine side effects are headaches, abdominal cramps, body aches, pain and swelling in the area where the vaccine was administered, and fatigue. These side effects may vary depending on which vaccine was administered and on an individual basis.
“The vaccine is the safest way for us to live through this,” she urged.
Kötting said she does not intend to persuade but rather urge the public to get vaccinated.
“We are in the CBD so businesses can send their staff here. They will be out of work for a shorter time,” she said.
She added that the process of establishing a vaccination point was handled quickly and effortlessly.
“A team from the ministry came on Thursday and said they would be here on Monday and there they were.”
