Suspended NPL turns to High Court
The Namibia Premier League (NPL) has filed an urgent application in the High Court in an attempt to be reinstated by the Namibia Football Association, which is currently being run by the Fifa normalisation committee, and to stop an NFA extraordinary congress from taking place.
The league claims it was suspended unlawfully on 2 October by the normalisation committee.
“The applicant seeks to interdict and restrain, with immediate effect, the first respondent from holding its 15th extraordinary congress, scheduled for 9 November 2019 at 10:00,” the court papers said.
The NPL also wants its suspension declared unlawful and of “no legal consequence”, or alternatively that its suspension be lifted by the normalisation committee. The league also claims its suspension lapsed on 25 October. The NPL is further demanding that the normalisation committee provides it with rules for promotion and relegation for the 2019/20 football season within two days of a court order. The league is now waiting for the High Court to give it a hearing date.
The 2019/20 premier league season has not started due to ongoing clashes been NPL bosses and the normalisation committee over promotions and relegations.
The country's first division streams failed to kick off last season, which meant there were no teams to promote.
