Supplementary registration of voters begins
The supplementary registration of voters started this week and ends on 15 September. My Zone asked young individuals why is it important to register to vote in the upcoming regional and local authority elections and here is what they had to say:

It is vital for young people to register for the upcoming regional and local authority elections because taking part in these elections allows young people to air their voices through the vote and to elect a regional or local authority leader who has the capacity to deliver and can serve the people's needs and wants. Covid-19 has shown us the importance and relevance of regional and local authority leadership. They play a vital role in serving the people on the ground, development and leadership, thus young people should register, vote and hopefully elect the right leader who will serve the community and its people.

Registering to vote in the upcoming regional and local authority elections is the way of telling the government, the local council, whoever, what you want from them. My vote is my voice. It serves as the biggest opportunity to have a say. If you have an opinion or want something done a certain way, voting is the way to ensure that it’s carried out. If you don’t get out and vote a multitude of things happen, you lose your right to complain about the outcome and someone else makes your decision for you.

The outcomes of the upcoming regional and local authority elections will determine the quality of healthcare, education and, most importantly, land delivery in our constituencies. If young individuals don't vote, we forfeit our prerogative to have a say towards the art and processes of governance that will ultimately affect all of our futures. Now that's just lame!

It’s very important for the youth to take part in elections as they are the future leaders of this country. The youth are a diverse group of people, who understand the change that is taking place in world politics. Casting your vote gives you the power to push local authority leadership and choose a leader that will serve their community.

Votes can shape social arrangements and its therefore important that we start from the grassroots of our communities. We need to elect people who understand our communities’ issues and who have established the appropriate social reforms for us thus young people can make this happen by taking part in the upcoming regional and local authority elections.
