SPYL not in touch with Shanghala – Nekongo
Sacky Shanghala’s alleged letter from prison to the Swapo youth league was a subject of discussion in court this week.

Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) secretary Efraim Nekongo has vehemently denied claims that they were instigated to protest the Fishrot arrests through a letter sent from prison by former justice minister Sacky Shanghala.
During court proceedings on Monday morning, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lead investigator Andreas Kanyangela said Shanghala had already proven that he would interfere with the case if released on bail, as he had written to the youth league to go against the ACC.
“I must still stick to that he may interfere with witnesses taking into account that while in custody, he wrote a letter which he posted to some of the Swapo youth league members asking them to demonstrate or to protest against the criminal justice system as he feels their case is not fairly handled. Someone was arrested. They went to the extent of bribing someone and Mr Shanghala and Mr Tamson Hatuikulipi were mentioned,” he said.
‘Not me’
Nekongo said the letter was not even addressed to him but to a “different Nekongo”, whose name he could not remember.
He also insisted that the youth league had not contact with Shanghala during this time.
“I am not aware of that, let Kanyangela deal with his testimony. We were never involved, unless it is a different SPYL than the one I am leading.
“Kanyangela called me to his office one time and asked me the same questions you are asking me and I told him I was not aware of the letter.
“By the way, the letter was addressed to a different Nekongo, I cannot even remember what the name was. I told him I am the only secretary of the SPYL and maybe that was just a publication,” he said.
