Abmerk Shidjuu has vowed to put his best foot forward and prove that he still has many years of fighting in him when he steps into the ring to vie for the vacant WBO Africa Super Flyweight title in East London, South Africa.
The fight is set to take place on 29 July with the Namibian set to trade blows with Athenkosi Dumezweni from South Africa.
Shidjuu goes into this fight with a record of 17 wins, 6 losses and 2 draws and can draw confidence from a TKO win in his last fight against Malawi’s Robert Kachiza in December last year.
Dumezweni comes into the fight with 6 wins, 1 loss and no draws.
This will be Shidjuu’s first fight for the year and the Namibian says that he can’t wait to get into action.
“I’m ready because a boxer should always be ready,” he told Namibian Sun on Monday.
Having won his last fight by TKO, the Namibian is quick to say that winning by stoppage is never his aim.
“When a KO comes, it is just a bonus but I’m sure I’ll give my best when I step into the ring.”
The 34-year-old boxer added that he still feels that he can do a lot in the ring.
“The sky is the limit for me. I’ve never been KO’d in my career and even the fights I lost; I feel were not genuine losses. I have a talent and I’m determined to keep on showing it,” he said.
According to a press release issued by the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy, who handle his affairs, Shidjuu is in for a tough time because the Eastern Cape is known as the boxing capital of South Africa.
“[So] to walk away with a win in the Eastern Cape is generally believed to be almost close to impossible because of the
intimidating environment and fierce boxing crowd. But Shidjuu is ready and prepared for the fight and will give it his all,” the statement read.
