Safland Sevens gets new sponsor
The Safland Sevens tournament will have a thrilling programme for young players thanks to a sponsorship boost from RealGood Chicken.
RealGood Chicken, a product of Namib Poultry Industries, has announced that they will be joining forces with the Safland Sevens as co-sponsors of the rugby tournament set for 11-13 November.
The company will fund the Sevens Schools Competition and the Rugby Skills Development Clinic.
“We are looking forward to being part of such a world-class tournament,” said Marne Bouwer, junior brand manager for RealGood Chicken.
“We are confident that with our sponsorship of the Sevens Schools Competition as well as the Rugby Skills Development Clinic, we can contribute to the growth of rugby and also assist in promoting a healthy lifestyle, discipline and team spirit among the youth of Namibian rugby.”
The Safland Sevens will be held at The Dome in Swakopmund.
International teams that have confirmed their participation include South Africa, USA, Germany, Kenya, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Nigeria and the SA All Stars team.

For South Africa''s coach Neil Powell, the Safland Sevens Rugby Tournament will be the start of the next four-year Olympic cycle.
The highly rated coach recently signed a new four-year deal with the SA Rugby Union following the Blitzbokke''s bronze-medal performance at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The consistent performances of South Africa previously led to strong interest in Powell''s coaching services from the likes of Canada and Olympic champions Fiji, but due to his passionate ambition to be involved in South African success in the World Rugby Sevens Series and ultimately the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Powell could not be persuaded away from his beloved Blitzbokke. And so his next chapter starts at Swakopmund in November.
The Safland Sevens will serve as a World Series warm-up tournament for teams such as South Africa, USA, Kenya and Germany.
The South African All Stars team is expected to be among the favourites as Werner Kok was named player of the tournament when the SA Academy team won last year''s inaugural Safland Sevens event in Windhoek.
