SADC officials to visit Port of Walvis Bay
The five-day meeting is reviewing the implementation of 42 resolutions taken during the last meeting held in September 2017 in South Africa.
Senior officials of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) who are responsible for transport and meteorology will visit the Port of Walvis Bay and submarine landing station at Swakopmund tomorrow.
The port and submarine landing station form part of the regional projects implemented in Namibia under the SADC Regional Infrastructure Development Master Plan Short-Term Action Plan.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting of SADC senior officials responsible for meteorology and transport in Windhoek on Tuesday, Namibia’s deputy minister of works and transport, James Sankwasa, said SADC ministers of ICT would be informed of the status of the implementation of the projects in achieving regional integration goals.
Agenda
The five-day meeting, which started on Monday, is reviewing the implementation of 42 resolutions taken during the last meeting held in September 2017 in South Africa, to be implemented by the SADC Secretariat and the SADC implementing agencies and member states.
The meeting is also discussing issues such as the SADC Aviation Safety Organisation, Tripartite Transport and Transit Facilitation Programme and transport facilitation, as well as the compliance of national meteorological services.
The senior officials will be informed of the status of the short-term action plans and transport and aviation programmes.
Common purpose
Sankwasa said the common purpose of SADC member states is to achieve socio-economic development, peace and security, alleviate poverty and to enhance the standard and quality of life of the people of southern Africa.
Additionally, SADC member states should also support the socially disadvantaged through regional integration built on democratic principles and equitable and sustainable development goals.
Member states are therefore expected to work together to achieve effective results with the guidance of several legal and institutional instruments which provide codes of procedure and practice on various issues. - Nampa
