Ruacana approves housing project

The Ruacana Town Council in the Omusati Region has approved a housing development project by the Namibia Housing Industry (NHI) which will start this year, the town’s mayor Andreas Shintama says. Shintama said this during the signing of a twinning agreement by his council and the Eenhana Town Council in the Ohangwena Region over the weekend. “It is our aim that at least the issue of housing should and must eventually become the least of our concerns in the near future in Namibia,” he said. The project will see 150 houses developed. The mayor also mentioned the construction of the Ruacana Time Square Complex, Tona Business Complex (where Bank Windhoek will be situated) and a veterinary clinic as some of the development projects taking place at Ruacana this year. “All of the aforementioned projects are expected to be completed by November 2014,” he said. Founding President Sam Nujoma recently inaugurated the Ruacana Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Park that has been established at the town by the Namibia Development Corporation (NDC). Shintama said the SME Park is another project that has added value to the town. Ruacana is a settlement that was transformed into a town after Independence in 1990. It was established for Italian nationals who were contracted to build the Ruacana hydropower station in the 1970s. RUACANA NAMPA
