Reverend Patrick Jooste laid to rest
Approximately 900 people of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia (ELCRN) on Sunday paid homage to the fallen deputy dean of Otjiwarongo circuit, Reverend Patrick Jooste, in Dordabis.
The funeral service of 45-year-old Jooste was held at the Stephanus Parish of the ELCRN attended by congregants of all the six circuits within the church.
Jooste died in the Katutura Intermediate Hospital on 12 May after he was transferred from Otjiwarongo, where he sustained serious injuries in an accident on the B1 road on 11 May.
Jooste was driving a minibus when he allegedly lost control over the vehicle, causing it to roll several times approximately 17 km south of Otjiwarongo. Delivering the Jooste's eulogy, the dean of Windhoek circuit, Reverend Abraham //Kheibeb described him as a family man, a loving husband and grandfather loved by all within the ELCRN, a staunch supporter of Orlando Pirates Football Club, as well as a very good football player.
“Pastor Jooste was not only active within the ELCRN, but heavily involved in community activities. He chose several themes and particular areas of concern as part of his community service,” //Kheibeb remarked.
He said crime prevention, peace building, education, empowerment of the marginalised communities, land reform and other poverty eradication interventions were his particular passions.
“In the education sector Jooste was a regular visitor at schools in Outjo through self-invitation. As a responsible parent and as a community leader, he was very active at the school where his children are and was elected as vice-chairperson of the school board where he made his mark as a leader,” he noted. Jooste was based in Outjo's /Khomtron parish at the time of his death. In his sermon at the same occasion, Deputy Bishop Paul Hatani Kisting said Jooste was a principled servant of the Lord, one who was steadfast in his faith and belief in what the church stands for.
“Jooste was a man who despite the challenges, believed in preaching the gospel of God, a servant who stood by his vows and carried out his task with aplomb and vigour,” Kisting said.
He said his wife and children should not waver in the helping hand of the Almighty and find comfort in Him and cherish the moments he had with them.
Jooste is survived by his wife and four children.
