Renamo Bucks win Omaheke Top 8

Renamo Bucks from Epukiro and Otjinene-based Evero United won the football and netball categories, respectively, at the Omaheke Top 8 tournament in Gobabis on Sunday.

The tournament, which saw 26 football teams and 16 netball teams competing for top honours, was held at the Legare Stadium.

In the first netball semi-final, Evero United defeated Four Stars from Aminuis 28-15.

Otjeue City from Aminuis overcame Epukiro-based Ovituua 20-17 in the second semi-final.

Evero United won the Omaheke Top 8 netball category after they defeated Otjeue City 28-18 in the final.

They took home N$5 000, a trophy and 12 gold medals.

Otjeue City pocketed N$2 500, along with 12 silver medals, while Ovituua and Four Stars each took home N$1 250 as the losing semi-finalists.

In the football category, Eastern Swallows from Epukiro overcame Otjinene-based Okauua Rovers 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in the first semi-final.

The second semi-final saw an Epukiro derby between Renamo Bucks and Otjimanangombe, with Renamo Bucks emerging 4-3 victors on penalties following a goalless draw.

Renamo Bucks then won the final, defeating Eastern Swallows 1-0.

They pocketed N$10 000, a trophy and 20 gold medals.

Eastern Swallows took home N$5 000 and 20 silver medals, while Otjimanangombe and Okauua Rovers each took home N$2 500 as the losing semi-finalists.

Eastern Swallows' Wandy Kahuure won the player of the tournament award, while Veta Meroro from Otjeue City won the same award in the netball category.

The Omaheke Top 8 is contested by teams from Omaheke's constituencies that reached the quarterfinals of their respective annual tournaments held during December in the preceding year.
