Reflecting on 2020

Monique Adams I’m sure everyone can agree that this year has been a roller-coaster ride. No one expected Ms Rona and the effects it had on all of us regardless of social class, skin colour or race. Even though it has done a lot of bad, there is a bit of good we all can take from this year 2020.Just like everyone else, I thought 2020 would be my year. I’d be securing bags, finally travelling outside the country, buy my first car, but it didn’t turn out that way. But this year has shown me the value of family, friendships and many more. I was on a standstill and during that time I did a lot of self-evaluation and tried to find ways to see how I could become a better version of myself. It showed me to not just talk the talk but walk the walk too. Self-discipline was something that I worked on every day and it was a struggle but having talks with myself and imagining where I saw myself in five years kept me going. I love my friends but this year I’ve lost a lot of friendships that I never thought would end. It’s heart-breaking but I always believe that everything happens for a reason so I don’t question it, I just move along, because it will all make sense later on.Love life... I don’t want to talk about it, but I’ve experienced a lot this year when it comes to that department. Apart from being ghosted, dribbled and led on, that whole experience taught me not to be accessible to everyone. I’m rare and unique, so I shouldn’t just let any guy into my space. That’s also why I got off social media. Coming back to my love life, I’m not in a rush for anything and I’m still on that self-discovery and self-love journey.Careerwise, I’ve also been on the most amazing journey. I never expected to be part of the amazing My Zone team and the NMH family but I’m here now and so far, it’s been both challenging and very rewarding. Being here has taught me so much about myself, what my strengths and weaknesses are, how to work as a team and how to work with different people you meet every day. I’m excited about this new journey and I know bigger and better things are coming.So, overall, the year has challenged me and all of us, but sit down and write down the peaks and the valleys you have experienced this year. Moving forward, we all are truly blessed to say that we survived this year 2020, know and believe that you are a soldier. I don’t want to say this, but 2021 is going to be my year! To the friends I have lost, I will always have love for you and I’m wishing you nothing but peace, love, good health and wealth. To all the friends that I have now, I’m wishing you all nothing but success and to make more amazing memories together. To the guys that played me, “New life, who this?” LOL! And everyone else, 2021 will be your year and we will be entering the year woke and prepared for anything that comes our way. So, from myself, Monique Adams, I wish you guys a happy holiday and an amazing new year!
