Putting our best foot forward

Thinking out of the box and doing what you love to do is the recipe for this lad's success.

Tsumeb-born Lubowski Kadila has an insatiable appetite for travelling and creating magical experiences, and has turned his passion into a business, giving local and foreign travellers a taste of Namibia's significance.

Kadila is a public relations graduate and is currently doing his final year in Tourism Management at the University of Namibia and is not waiting for opportunities to live his dream. Kadila is putting his public relations experience and his love for Namibia to good use, by creating memorable traveling experiences for others.

In 2013, he was employed as an assistant project manager for the “Go Africa, Go Germany” exchange programme which involved 22 students from different African countries and Germany that travelled throughout Namibia and Germany to build relationships, and experience social interaction for the eventual eradication of stereotypes. Kadila says the entire planning process for the project particularly intrigued him and led to the registration of his company, Anchor Adventures. “It's simple; I love sharing the country's beauty and to be able to provide quality service to people in the process. There's just so much to see in Namibia, the world needs to know that,” Kadila says.

Kadila says often, people think that venturing into something is about registering a business and then you just get going, but he says instead, it requires a lot of research and planning. “I went to school, I read about the tourism industry, researched about organisations already in the industry and what they do and then figured out a way how Anchor Adventures can provide services different from those already provided,” he explained his strategy.

He says Anchor Adventures just doesn't offer a tour or a service, but a proudly Namibian experience. The company specialises in tours that are tailored to the combined culture of Namibia, adventure, wildlife and social interaction with the people of a specific area. “These are then combined with other interactions in the country thus giving you the ultimate Namibian niche experience,” explains Kadila.

Kadila says he spends a lot of time on social media saying his social media is his main advertising platform and he also liaises with restaurants and accommodation establishments so that his company can be marketed at such establishments. Tours range from two to 17 people and he says they always strive to make tours personal. According to Kadila, his tours place clients at the centre of the whole preparation and they make them find creative ways to satisfy clients' traveling needs in order to build professional relationships with them.

“Our aim is to share Namibia, we have such a magical vast landscape and wildlife and the beauty of the desert bordering the ocean, but one of our greatest treasures is also the spirit of our people, our sense of community,” Kadila says. He adds that he likes to incorporate that into tours that are part of the Namibian experience.

Anchor Adventures is a tour operator that represents culture, the people and adventure. “We specialise in tours in the north of Namibia with all of its tradition, to embrace the culture, interact with the people and create a platform whereby locals and travellers can get to know and learn from each other,” says Kadila. He also said Anchor Adventures combines these strategies with the famous Namibian attraction highlights to ultimately give tourists an insightful, fun and memorable tourism experience with Anchor Adventures. “We love it, it is what we do,” declares Kadila.

Kadila narrates that he has travelled to several places around the country and they all have a different feeling and ambience. He maintains that he enjoys the beautiful contrast that Namibia has, the abundant wildlife, the peace, diverse culture and the friendly citizens. “I have been to the Fish River Canyon, Sossusvlei, Twyfelfontein, Ruacana Falls and Katima Mulilo to mention a few,” reveals Kadila. He stresses that the Namibia's cultural diversity is amazing and that is what Anchor Adventure represents, insight on culture, interaction and sharing the differences in the ways that we all live.

He dismisses the notion that travelling is expensive and encourages people to travel more. “Travelling is not necessarily expensive, sometimes it is all about putting in some time in order to plan and find out the actual destination you would love to go to,” says Kadila. He suggests that people should travel in groups because this makes it cheaper, more fun and more memorable.

Kadila believes that it is important to travel because travelling is one of life's pleasures that enable people to see and experience new things and make new memories together, both at home and away from home. “I for one have an insatiable desire to travel, and I love to share it with other people,” declares Kadila.

Kadila enjoys his work so much that when he is not travelling, he plans tours for people who want to travel. “I incorporate all the logistics and reservations from transportation, accommodation, social activities, meals and I do these for both self- drives and guided tours in and around Namibia,” he explains.

Kadila applauds the Namibian Tourism Board for marketing Namibia to the world as a tourist destination. “The Namibian Tourism Board is doing excellent work in the marketing department regarding Namibia as a tourism destination. They do that very well in marketing the country and upholding the good image of Namibia,” he says.

Kadila is adamant about the future of Anchor Adventures and hopes to achieve more in the tourism industry. “Five years from now I see Anchor Adventures as an established and successful tour operator for customised Namibian tours with a local and international office,” he says. He wants Anchor Adventures to be a tour operator that prides itself in the provision of satisfactory and personal customer service to local and international travellers.

Kadila explains that what he finds fascinating about people is the fact that we are all different and have an abundance of talent within us all and that for him is amazing. It is for this reason that he encourages young people to find something that they love and are passionate about and pursue that wholeheartedly as a career.
