Local artist Freeda has been away from the local music scene for a while. Some may have thought she was on a break after a busy 2017, travelling in and out of the country for Coke Studios Africa. But Freeda is not neglecting her fans, and has now completed the music video for her hit single titled Imagine. Freeda, who has been in the industry since the early 2000s, says the secret to such longevity is the ability to reinvent oneself, set new goals and do the necessary groundwork. The singer says she is confident that she and her team, Westcoast D.O.C, have done the bulk of the groundwork to usher her music career into the next level and this is evident in her work. Her new single is dedicated to black women, who are celebrating their being.“It's time we stand up and show the world what a blessing it is to be born a black woman. The song is about celebrating African beauty and being proud of our full figures as black women,” said Freeda.The songbird says song composition has never been a challenge for her and working with Billionaire Sound made the songwriting, recording and production exciting. She admits that the music industry is very competitive environment and it is important for one to bring out the best songs and music videos. Imagine was shot in Namibia and Uganda by Dessert Films, with the aim of celebrating African women. “Your music products need to be of the highest quality to be able to compete with other international music. It is from this perspective that Westcoast D.O.C and myself put great attention on the quality of our music videos. We do not compromise on the quality of our work.”Freeda says the rest of the year will be exciting and memorable for her fans, as she will be churning out a lot of projects. She is grateful to her ever-growing fan base and all the support she gets from them.
