Preparing models for the runway
The first semester of Leena Shipwata’s model training programme is slated to kick off on Saturday, 6 February, in Windhoek, she announced.

In an interview with tjil, seasoned model Leena Shipwata shared about her model training programme, set to kick off next month, which will cover techniques used in high fashion, pageantry and commercial modelling, as well as brand management and influencing.
“Basically, your overall works around modelling and also focusing on the ins and outs, and dos and don’ts around modelling,” she said.
On why she encourages rookie models to participate in the programme, Shipwata said she was once a beginner herself with no direction and ideas on to how to grow herself both as a model and brand.
“When I started, there were no training sessions available for me to polish my gift; nobody was there to lend a helping hand so it was extra hard for me.
“It doesn’t have to be that hard for you,” she added.
Turning dreams into reality
“I present to you the Leena Shipwata model training sessions 2021 where we are turning dreams into a reality. If you are at home and you have a passion for modelling, no matter your body size or height, this is an opportunity you do not want to miss out on. I have so much to share with you,” she said.
Shipwata acknowledged that so much has been done in the last five years in Namibia’s modelling and fashion arena to elevate the industry as a whole and creatives are more inclined to work with one another. However, she noted that there is always room for improvement. “The only thing lacking is support, both moral and financial support from other industries, the government and even just how it is frowned upon by our communities.”
