The public relations industry is mourning the death last week of Chris Skinner, a veteran and leader in the field.
The 79-year old South African best-selling author and PR consultant died on Thursday, 9 June 2016, the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA) announced.
Skinner is noted for writing the influential ‘Handbook of Public Relations’, which is currently in its 11th edition and is used as a textbook at tertiary institutions across the African continent.
He was a former chairman of the Accreditation Council of Prisa, and a senior consultant with the East and Southern African Management Institute (Esami) at the time of his death.
He wrote more than 12 books on public relations, organisational communications, media, corporate social investment and crisis communication.
Skinner visited Namibia in April at the invitation of the Namibian chapter of Prisa, hosting a number of workshops with local public relations and media practitioners.
“Chris will be dearly missed by all who knew him and his legacy will forever be remembered in the public relations sector,” Prisa chairperson-elect Ilke Akwenye said on Monday.
A memorial page created in Skinner’s honour can be accessed at https://remembr.com/chris.skinner.
