Porsche reveals the latest in its 911 onslaught - the new 911 Turbo and Turbo S. The fearsome duo will be available in South Africa from October 2013.
The 911 Turbo and Turbo S feature new all-wheel drive running gear with active rear axle steering, adaptive aerodynamics, full LED headlights and up to 412kW of power. Crucially, an entirely new, lightweight aluminium chassis has been employed with a wheelbase that is 100mm longer than its predecessor.
Porsche's Dynamic Chassis Control active anti-roll system is offered for the first time in the 911 Turbo models, and is standard on the Turbo S along with the carmaker's Sport Chrono Package Plus and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes.
The turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection produced 383kW in the 911 Turbo and 412kW in the Turbo S. Power is transferred to the drive wheels via a seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission that now also features an auto start/stop function to keep emissions down.
The 911 Turbo, with the optional SportChrono Package Plus, accelerates from 0 - 100kph in 3.2 seconds (faster than the previous Turbo S), while the new Turbo S covers the sprint in 3.1 seconds.
A 'sound symposer' channels the turbocharged flat six's audio track through the passenger compartment for a more immediate 911 Turbo experience.
Compared with the standard 911, the Turbo S is wider by 28mm over the Carrera 4 models, while other standout features include forged two-tone 20-inch diameter wheels and full LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights.
The interiors has also been completely redesigned. The Turbo S comes in a Black and Carrera Red colour combination with 19-way adjustable sport seats, standard Bose surround sound audio system and radar- and camera-based cruise control and road sign recognition functions.
