Polyoak, leading rigid plastic packaging supplier

The general manager of Polyoak Packaging Namibia, Greg Mackintosh, says Polyoak Packaging was established in Cape Town in 1976. Today it is one of the leading rigid plastic packaging suppliers in Southern Africa, employing over 3 000 people.

The Group has eight specialist divisions and 39 manufacturing plants.

In 2006, Polyoak Packaging Namibia was established and from the onset included a significant local shareholding. Mackintosh says the company was established initially to serve the needs of the dairy and chemical industries.

“The motivation to establish a manufacturing facility was substantiated mainly due to the high cost of transporting high-volume, low-value products imported from South Africa. Establishing a local manufacturing plant would create huge value to customers from a cost-saving and delivery-timing perspective,” says Mackintosh.

Opening a factory has also enabled significant job creation and provided many training opportunities due to the specialised equipment required, he says.

Today Polyoak Namibia is a proudly Namibian company supplying world-class products to a diverse range of industries in Namibia. A full manufacturing facility was opened in Prosperita, Windhoek, in a tailor-made factory spanning some 5 000 square metres under roof.

Polyoak Packaging Namibia has grown significantly from the early years and now specialises in the manufacture, design and supply of thermoformed, blow-, injection- and compression-moulded plastic packaging for the dairy, beverage, foods and industrial sectors.

Mackintosh says Polyoak Packaging Namibia is the only Namibian one-stop packaging supply solution focusing on container manufactured products.

“We have a full generic range but where required we are able to assist in the research and design of new products that are required. This includes an in-house design department, mould manufacture and labelling of the manufactured product. We are also able to draw on the 35 years of expertise of the Polyoak head office when required.”
