Pokolo falls ill in jail, wishes to apply for bail

KEETMANSHOOP NAMPA Suspended NovaNam human resources manager David Pokolo, who was arrested a fortnight ago, has fallen ill in the Keetmanshoop police cells and was taken to hospital. Pokolo and co-accused Jesaya Titus Panduleni were arrested on October 4 on suspicion of involvement in a pension scam syndicate at NovaNam. So far, six people are believed to have fallen prey to the pension scam at the company, which allegedly involves more than N$200 000. Police Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaak confirmed to Nampa yesterday that Pokolo was taken to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital for treatment. "His blood sugar level was high, and the police thus took him to hospital. He was given medicine and returned to the prison cells in Keetmanshoop. Pokolo said he will apply for bail next week Monday at Lüderitz," Isaak said. The police are still investigating the pension scam. Old Mutual stopped the processing of 18 forged pension claim forms last month after NovaNam management instructed the company to do so for the safety of the employees' money, and for a forensic audit to be conducted into the scam.
