Hoha FC and Makuni FC will lock horns in the final of the Petrus Kavhura Cup (PKC) this weekend in the Ndonga Linena constituency of the Kavango East Region.

The match is expected to take place at the Shitemo soccer field this coming Saturday.

The competition, which is recognised by the Namibia Football Association (NFA), is played in the two constituencies of Ndonga-Linena and Ndiyona, with over 30 teams competing against each other.

PKC chairperson Paulus Ngula Haingura explained the competition has grown very fast since its inaugural edition in 2016. He said the aim of the competition is to develop sport in rural areas, as well as to respond to the Fifth National Development Plan (NDP5) pillar on social progression.

“Social progression is aimed at empowering people and communities through sport, with the desired outcome coming in 2022. Namibians have improved opportunities to participate in professional sport with employment contribution increasing from 0.2% in 2014 to 2% in 2022,” said Haingura.

He said before the final match, Koro FC will clash with Karutci Young Heroes in a third/fourth playoff that will kick off at about 14:00.

The winning team will walk away with a trophy, 30 gold medals and a cash prize of N$10 000, while the runners-up will take home N$6 000 and 30 silver medals.

The third-placed team will walk away with N$4 000 and 30 bronze medals, while the side ending fourth will get N$2 500. The player of the competition will walk away with N$1 000.

Rucara Brave Fighters won the cup in 2018.

Haingura encouraged all sports lovers to come in numbers to watch the final.

He also invited big football clubs in the region to use the opportunity to scout for promising players.
