PDM won't tolerate corruption - Venaani
Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader McHenry Venaani has called on the electorate to go out in their numbers on 27 November and vote for his party, as it will not tolerate corruption.
Venaani made the call while addressing a meeting at Oshakati on Saturday, where he demanded that the people implicated in corruption, such as the airport upgrade tender and the recent fishing quota scandal, be brought to book.
Sacky Shanghala and Bernhardt Esau resigned from cabinet last week, after allegations surfaced that they were involved in an international fishing bribery scandal. President Hage Geingob, while addressing a Swapo election campaign rally at Omuthiya on Friday, said he could not dismiss the two ministers on the grounds that they have not yet been found guilty. This was not taken lightly by Venaani.
“Swapo is covering up corruption in this country. Why does the party keep the two cabinet ministers implicated in the Iceland scandal on its parliamentary candidate list?” Venaani asked, adding that the two ministers should have their assets frozen. He said it is a shame to keep someone linked to a scandal involving N$150 million on a parliamentary list.
Venaani further said Namibia will be corruption-free if the PDM is given the mandate to be in charge after the 27 November general election.
He also promised the PDM administration will ensure that every Namibian gets a plot and that quality medicines will be provided to state hospitals. He said no medicine will be procured through tenders and that the PDM government will only have 15 cabinet ministers and no vice-president.
“I shall not be a leader of my family, I shall not be a leader of corruption and I shall not be a leader of one tribe or one region, but a leader of all Namibians,” Venaani said.
