Otjimbingwe murder suspect appears
The 27-year-old man suspected of a murder and kidnapping at a farm in the Otjimbingwe area appeared before the Karibib Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Nikolas Mangundu Hausiku appeared before Magistrate Unchen Konjore and the matter was postponed to 17 January 2019 for further police investigation and for Hausiku to obtain legal representation.
Hausiku again appeared in court on Friday on a drug possession charge.
Hausiku was arrested in connection with the axe murder of 59-year-old farmer Hendrik Coetzee and the kidnapping of his 56-year-old wife, Maria.
The incident happened on 10 November at a farm in the Otjimbingwe area where Hausiku was employed as a farmworker.
According to the Erongo police Hausiku approached Maria Coetzee, demanding to know where they kept their firearms.
She told Hausiku that her husband did not own a firearm. Hausiku then searched the house without success. He then took an axe, walked towards Coetzee, who was milking goats, and allegedly hit him several times on the head.
Hausiku then went back to the house, loaded some items onto Coetzee's GWM bakkie and instructed Maria to get into the car.
He drove off on the Otjimbingwe/Wilhelmstal gravel road. About 35km from Otjimbingwe, he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.
After the accident, Hausiku ran away. Maria Coetzee managed to walk a few kilometres before she was given a lift back to Otjimbingwe.
Following a manhunt for the killer, Hausiku was arrested at Rundu last Sunday.
At the time of his arrest, Hausiku was allegedly found in possession of dagga. In that case, the Rundu Magistrate’s Court denied him bail and postponed the matter to 13 December.
