Otavi hosts NASP archers
Archers from Namibia’s National Archery in Schools Programme (NASP) met for their first competition at Otavi last Saturday.
This event was held on the campus of Deutsche Privatschule of Otavi (DPSO).
There were 35 participants from six schools braving a cold wind to enjoy a day of archery beginning at 07:30.
There were three rounds at 10 metres and three rounds at 15 metres, for a total of 120 arrows for each participant.
The award ceremony took place at 13:00 after which all guests were happy to journey home again.
NASP thanked the members of the Parents of Otavi School Association who provided coffee and pancakes to all archers, trainers, parents and guests.
Tobie Kersten shot the highest score (289) in a single round.
Meanwhile, on the same day at the Heja Field Archery range outside Windhoek, only five scoring archers arrived for a shoot with a new cubby and Lindie Schoeman shooting in her new strings and pins at cub distances.
Bea Viviers had her last practice round before she and fellow archer Jolene Els leave to represent Namibia at the World Field Archery Championships in Australia.
The next major field archery competition will take place in Namibia next year—the African Regional Field Archery Championship (ARFAC).
The dates are set for 29 April to 1 May 2017 at Heja Lodge. All Namibian archers are invited to compete at this prestigious event.
Scores at Heja:
Bea Viviers AFFU 498
Liezl Schoeman AFBU 471
Louan Groenewald AMFU 524
AJ Groenewald JMFU 490
Gideon Brink Jnr 440
